THAI FOREST ECOLOGICAL RESEARCH JOURNAL

ISSN 2586-9566 (Print) ISSN 2985-0789 (Online)

Aims and Scope

The Thai Forest Ecological Research Journal (TFERJ) is an open access bi-annual peer-reviewed journal of forest ecology in Thailand. The journal publishes original scientific papers that report and interpret the findings of pure and applied research into the plants and their interaction with biotic and abiotic environments. The goal of TFERJ is to promote the platform for scientists and academics who share and discuss various new issues and perspectives in diverse areas of forest ecology. TFERJ welcomes submissions from Thai and foreign researchers who study related ecological topics in Thailand including:

  • Forest ecology: Studies of plant communities, populations, or individual ecology, plant ecophysiology, ecosystems, and landscape ecology are accepted.
  • Forest management: Studies of forest management, silviculture, forest restoration, as well as plant utilization are accepted.
  • Plant and wildlife management: Studies of the interactions between plants and animals (or fungi), and habitat management for biodiversity conservation are accepted.
  • Forest dynamics and environmental changes: Studies of the impact of environmental changes, climate change, and natural or anthropogenic disturbance on forest dynamics are accepted.
  • Other related plant science: Studies of experimental plant breeding, plant genetics, and other related plant ecological sciences are accepted.

TFERJ is established to promote the collaborative research of Thai Forest Ecological Research Network (TFERN) which studies plant ecology and biological science in Thailand. All submitted manuscripts must be prepared in Thai (or English) and are subject to a rigorous and fair peer-review process. They must be approved by the editorial board before being accepted for publication. This process will ensure the quality and validity of published research with strong and ecological messages that advance the understanding of ecological principles.

Types of Published Articles

All published articles in TFERJ should be based on rigorous and ethical research. The manuscript must not have been submitted elsewhere and has not presently been in process of publication by other journals. TFERJ articles are published either as research or review articles.

  1. Research articles presents original research findings in forest ecology and management, plant and wildlife interaction, biodiversity conservation, plant utilization, and other related ecological sciences. The research article should describe a clear research hypothesis, methodology, results and discussion, conclusion, as well as the implications and contributions of research findings. The total length of the manuscript, including references, must not exceed 8000 words.
  2. Review articles comprehensively review the existing literature on a specific topic in forest ecology and management, and other ecological sciences. Review articles should critically analyze and synthesize the literature, identify knowledge gaps, and suggest future research directions. The format and length of review papers are more flexible than research articles. Typical reviews are less than 12,000 words, including references.

Publication Frequency

TFERJ publishes two issues per year (January–June and July–December) with 8-10 articles per issue. The journal maintains timely and regularly publication of high-quality research in the relevant forest ecology fields.

Language

TFERJ requires that mainly articles be written in Thai language. In addition, the English language which report ecological studies in Thailand are also accepted. However, the clear and concise language and adherence to proper grammar and spelling are encouraged.

Publication Charges

The publication fee charged when the manuscript is accepted for publication in TFERJ is 2,500 THB (or 85 USD) and 4,000 THB (or 135 USD) for Thai and English language, respectively. Authors are informed about the fee at the time of acceptance.

Open Access Policy

TFERJ is an open-access journal which promotes open access to scientific research and makes research accessible to a broader audience; thus, all published articles are freely available online.

Ownership and Management

TFERJ is belonged to the Cooperation Centre of Thai Forest Ecological Research Network (CC-TFERN), Department of Forest Biology, Faculty of Forestry, Kasetsart University. The operation and management of TFERJ are mainly support by CC-TFERN, including publication fees. This financial support allows TFERJ to maintain its high publication standards, and open-access availability to researchers and readers worldwide.

Publisher

TFERJ is published by the Cooperation Centre of Thai Forest Ecological Research Network (CC-TFERN), Department of Forest Biology, Faculty of Forestry, Kasetsart University, Chatuchak, Bangkok 10900 Thailand.

Copyright and Licensing

TFERJ values copyright protection and licensing to safeguard author rights and facilitate the appropriate dissemination of research. The copyright of the published article is transferred to TFERJ, including without limitation, the right to publish the work in whole or in part in any and all forms of media, now or hereafter known, and is effective if and when the article is accepted for publication. Thus, it grants TFERJ all rights for the work so that both parties, TFERJ and authors, may be protected from the consequences of unauthorized use.

Revenue Sources

TFERJ employs various revenue sources to sustain its operations and uphold transparency. TFERJ revenue sources include Article Processing Charge (APC), which authors pay upon manuscript acceptance to cover publication fee, some grants, sponsorships, and donations from aligned entities are also included. Importantly, our revenue sources do not influence editorial decisions; manuscripts are evaluated solely on scientific merit.

Advertising and Direct Marketing

The TFERJ editorial board makes considerations on appropriate advertisements and direct marketing based on relevance, quality and ethics, engaging the scientific community, fostering collaborations, and transparently disseminating high-quality research. TFERJ maintains transparency and integrity through its advertising policy. Relevant and appropriate advertisements, such as academic conferences, educational programs, and research tools, are considered. This information allows the researchers to know about upcoming academic events on forest ecological fields. Advertisement and marketing do not play any role in the decision of the editorial board.

Journal History

TFERJ has been promoted based on the collaboration of Thai researchers under the conference of the Thai Forest Ecological Research Network (TFERN) since 2013. The first volume was published in 2017 (print ISSN 2586-9566) with publication in the Thai language, and online publication was initiated in 2023, Volume 7 Number 1 (online ISSN 2985-0789). TFERJ is committed to promoting collaborative research and sharing knowledge in the scientific community, particularly in academic institutes of Thailand with limited access to scientific journals.
